Rainy Day Sky-Light

her eyes flutter and toes twitch as dreams play in her head.

she smiles and chuckles through closed eyes, making you wonder, what could be so funny?

her olive skin reflects off of the nap-time glow,

as the rainy day sky-light shines through a crack in the curtain that frames the window.

you toss and you turn child, your hair becoming a tangled mess.

when you wake, I will fix it while you say "Mommy, make me look like a princess".

but sweet little girl, you must know, that all of the braids and dress-up clothes could never compare,

to the grace, beauty and serenity that I see.

when dreams are lighting up your eyes and you're lying next to me.

rainy day sky-light nap-time, goodnight baby.
